Smoke pours from EV car at Pathum Thani market

PATHUM THANI — 9 September 2026, Thick smoke poured from beneath an electric vehicle (EV) at a market parking lot in Lam Luk Ka district early Wednesday morning, prompting firefighters to rush to the scene. No injuries were reported.

At around 05:30, police from Khukot Police Station were alerted to a vehicle fire in the parking area in front of a 7-Eleven at Nana Charoen Market in Khukot subdistrict, Lam Luk Ka district, Pathum Thani province.

Fire trucks from Lam Sam Kaeo Municipality and Khukot Municipality were dispatched to the scene along with emergency personnel.

Officials found a BYD Seal EV, bearing Bangkok licence plate 7 ขฉ 2279, with the vehicle’s owner, identified as Bancha, at the scene. Thick smoke was continuously billowing from underneath the vehicle and its rear section, alarming shoppers and local residents.

Firefighters sprayed water to control the situation. No visible flames were initially seen, but smoke continued to pour from the vehicle.

Bancha told police that he had planned to travel to Bangkok for an errand and had fully charged the vehicle before leaving his home behind Nana Charoen Market.

He stopped at the market to buy breakfast before continuing his journey. After parking, he noticed a battery warning symbol on the vehicle’s dashboard.

He planned to take the vehicle to a service centre in the Khlong Song area, which was due to open at 08:00, so technicians could inspect it before he continued to Bangkok.

However, when he returned to the vehicle after shopping, he was shocked to see a large amount of smoke coming from underneath the car and its rear section. The smoke appeared to be coming from the area where the vehicle’s battery is located.

He immediately called for help.

Police said no one was injured because Bancha had already switched off the vehicle and left it before the smoke intensified.

The exact cause of the incident remains unknown. Officials noted that the smoke appeared to originate from the rear section of the vehicle, where the battery pack is installed.

Technicians from the vehicle’s service centre will be contacted to conduct a detailed inspection and determine what caused the incident.
